Route Description
A Family Adventure in the Mountains
The Jochtal Adventure Park is much more than an ordinary playground. This easy family walk combines nature, movement and play in a beautiful alpine setting.
Starting at the top station of the Jochtal Cable Car, a panoramic trail leads through the stunning mountain landscape of South Tyrol. Along the way, kids can discover a variety of imaginative play stations that turn the walk into a real adventure.
Starting at the Top Station: The First Marble Run
The fun begins right at the mountain station, where you’ll find the first large wooden marble run. Wooden balls can be purchased from the vending machine on site for €2.
From here, follow the sign for the “Panoramaweg Steinermandl”. The route follows a wide forest road with a gentle incline and is perfectly suitable for strollers.
After around 15 minutes, you’ll reach the forest bell station. Children can ring dozens of cowbells hanging from the trees and create their own mountain melodies. Right next to it, another marble run awaits.
Play and Adventure Surrounded by Nature
Continue along the forest road and you’ll soon pass a large wooden tractor on your left. A little further on, you’ll reach the main play area beside a small pond – without a doubt the highlight of the entire walk. What makes this place so special is how naturally the playground blends into the landscape. Rather than feeling like a traditional playground, it resembles a small adventure village nestled in the mountains.
Here you’ll find:
- a giant climbing deer
- several marble runs
- a small village with wooden huts, slides and balancing elements
swings - a water play area with a pond, raft and water games
- hammocks, relaxation loungers and picnic areas
- stunning views of the South Tyrolean mountains
Many families end up spending much longer here than originally planned.
Continue to the Steinermandl Panoramic Platform
If you’d like to extend the walk, continue along the panorama trail towards the Steinermandl Panoramic Platform, which is about a 20-minute walk away (one way). Along the way, you’ll pass several more attractions, including a giant wooden sun, cosy hammocks and a large climbing bear.
The viewing platform itself is one of the highlights of the area. From here, you can enjoy spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of South Tyrol’s mountain landscape. On clear days, the view stretches far beyond the surrounding peaks.
A Family-Friendly Stop at Ochsenalm
Located just below the large adventure playground, Ochsenalm is the perfect place for a family break. In addition to serving delicious South Tyrolean dishes, the mountain hut also features a small playground. While the children play, parents can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery and local specialties.
Return to the Mountain Station
For the return walk, you have two options: Families with strollers can simply follow the same route back to the mountain station of the Jochtal Cable Car. Those without a stroller can choose a narrower hiking path that winds through beautiful alpine meadows and offers even more scenic views.
Opening Hours and Ticket Information
The Jochtal Adventure Park itself is free to visit. The only cost is the ticket for the Jochtal Cable Car, which takes visitors comfortably from Vals to the mountain station. Current opening hours, ticket prices and additional information can be found on the official Gitschberg Jochtal website.
