Big marble runs are among the most popular attractions for kids in South Tyrol. Not only are they great fun, but they also encourage children to stay active outdoors without even realizing it. Once the wooden marble starts rolling, kids can’t help but run after it all the way to the finish.
Loops, curves, bells, water features and creative obstacles turn every marble run into a little adventure. Many of these runs are located along scenic hiking trails or at family-friendly attractions, making them the perfect addition to a day out in the mountains.
At all of the marble runs featured below, wooden marbles can be purchased directly on site from vending machines, usually for €1 or €2.
Marble Runs at the Reinbach Waterfalls in Campo Tures
If your children love marble runs, the Reinbach Waterfalls should definitely be on your list. Just a short walk from the parking area, hidden among the trees, you’ll find a big marble run park. There are wooden and metal tracks, water-powered elements, bells and plenty of creative features that make every run unique. After playing, it’s well worth continuing the hike to the three spectacular Reinbach Waterfalls.
Jochtal Adventure Park in Vals
The Jochtal Adventure Park is one of the most beautiful family attractions in South Tyrol. Along the stroller-friendly panoramic trail, children can discover numerous play stations, including several marble runs. The fun begins right at the top station of the Jochtal cable car. As you follow the trail, you’ll come across additional marble runs featuring loops, curves and other exciting elements. One of the highlights is how beautifully the tracks are integrated into the natural mountain landscape, accompanying visitors throughout the entire adventure trail.
Outdoor Kids Camp at Merano 2000
Located directly at the top station of Merano 2000, the Outdoor Kids Camp features an especially long marble run that winds its way down the hillside.
The wooden marble races past cowbells and various obstacles that add extra excitement to the experience. The marbles can also be used for other games around the adventure playground. Families will also find a large playground, an alpine coaster and plenty of hiking trails to explore.
Marble Run on the Gilf Waterfall Trail in St. Martin in Passeier
This marble run is still something of a hidden gem. Along the Gilf Waterfall Trail, deep in the forest, you’ll discover a lovingly designed wooden marble run.
A vending machine selling marbles is located right next to the track. For children, it’s a fun and welcome break during the hike. The trail then continues to the impressive Gilf Waterfall, which is the highlight of the walk.
Alpin Marinzen Playground in Kastelruth
At the top station of the Marinzen chairlift in Kastelruth, families will find a large playground featuring a long marble run that stretches down the slope.
In addition to the marble run, there is a charming pond, beautiful viewpoints overlooking the Dolomites and several hiking trails. It’s an ideal destination for a relaxed day outdoors with children.
