Kohlern Forest Playground near Bolzano

The Kohlern Forest Playground above Bolzano was newly built in summer 2026 and is located right next to the mountain station of the Colle Cable Car. Surrounded by trees, the playground features a large tube slide, a sand play area, a little wooden hut with a pulley and a zip line where kids can whizz through the forest.

The real highlight is the long climbing and balancing course winding its way through the trees. You’ll also find tables and benches dotted around the playground, perfect for a picnic in the shade.

Take the cable car straight to the playground

The playground in Kohlern is an easy family day out from Bolzano. Simply hop on the Colle Cable Car and it takes you straight up to the playground. The cable car runs every 15 minutes, but make sure to check the midday break when planning your trip.

You can also use the Südtirol Pass on the cable car. One thing to know: you validate your pass at the mountain station after arriving at the top.

Escape the summer heat in Bolzano

The forest playground is open year-round and accessible with a stroller. It’s an especially good choice on hot summer days: when temperatures soar down in Bolzano, simply take the cable car up to Kohlern and enjoy a few hours playing in the cooler forest.

Where to eat and hike in Kohlern

Just a few minutes’ walk from the forest playground, you’ll find the family-friendly Klaushof, with its own playground, a large garden and lovely views across the Bolzano basin.

If you’d like to combine your visit with a hike, you can walk from Kohlern to Schneiderwiesen in around 50 minutes (trail no. 1). Please note that this trail is not suitable for strollers.
