Route Description
Hiking to Hofer Alpl with Kids
This hike in the Sciliar region of South Tyrol is perfect for families who enjoy being active outdoors. It’s especially great for kids who like to walk, but also doable with younger children if you’re using a baby carrier.
At the top, you’ll find a real highlight: Hofer Alpl offers a playground, a small petting zoo, breathtaking views and truly excellent food – making it an ideal spot for a relaxed family day in the mountains.
If you’re looking for a shorter option, Tuff Alm is a great alternative located about halfway along the route.
Starting Points: Umes or Lake Fiè
You can start this hike from two different locations:
- From Umes: approx. 1 hour 30 minutes to Hofer Alpl
- From Lake Fiè (Völser Weiher): approx. 1 hour 40 minutes, but with slightly less elevation gain
We chose to start from Lake Fiè.
Park your car at the paid parking area near Lake Fiè and follow the signs towards Hofer Alpl (trail no. 1). Along the way, signage becomes less frequent, so simply follow the directions to Tuff Alm instead.
After passing Huber Weiher, you can either continue along the forest road or take a steeper shortcut through the woods on the right. After about 40 minutes, you’ll reach Tuff Alm.
From there, continue across the meadow towards Hofer Alpl – the trail is clearly marked again from this point. Follow the path through the forest, cross a small stream (stepping stones required), and then turn right onto trail no. 1A. After about 15 minutes, you’ll reach Hofer Alpl.
Hofer Alpl: Views, Playground & Great Food
