Route Description

Tobogganing in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites: The Ranui toboggan run is one of the most beautiful sledging routes in South Tyrol for families. Surrounded by stunning winter scenery and offering spectacular views of the Odle/Geisler Group, it guarantees unforgettable tobogganing fun in the Dolomites.

A major advantage for families: depending on your children’s energy level, you can choose between two different ascent options.

The Dusler Alm is open in winter (as of 2025) and is noticeably quieter than the more popular Geisler Alm or Gampen Alm. Thanks to its relatively short and easy ascent, this tobogganing tour in South Tyrol is especially well suited for families with children.

How to Get to the Ranui Toboggan Run

The tour starts at the paid parking area at the Waldschenke Inn. From there, the path leads through the forest for about 30 minutes until you reach a fork in the trail. The left path leads towards Zans, but you stay right, following the signs to Dusler Alm.

After approximately 400 metres, you cross a bridge and reach the actual toboggan run. Follow this wide trail uphill for about 40 minutes until you reach the Dusler Alm.

At the end, turn left towards the hut – do not take the steep summer trail. Instead, choose the second left turn with the wide path. A large wooden sign clearly indicates the correct route.

Toboggan Descent

For the descent, follow the ascent route in the upper section. At the bridge, however, do not turn right – continue straight ahead. This section is slightly faster and particularly pleasant, as there are no hikers coming uphill. The toboggan run ends shortly before the Waldschenke parking area.

Alternative Route: Shorter Ascent, But Less Tobogganing Fun

If you are travelling with younger children or prefer a shorter ascent, you can alternatively start at the paid parking area in Zans (Zanser Alm). From there, you can reach the Dusler Alm in about 45 minutes by simply following the signposted path.

Please note: With this option, the toboggan descent is shorter, and the final section back to the Zans parking area (approx. 20 minutes) has to be walked due to the lack of slope.

A handy family tip: One parent can toboggan down with the children all the way to the Waldschenke, while the other parent picks up the car in Zans and collects the family at the Waldschenke parking.
