Route description

This hike is perfect for adventurous kids (or parents who don’t mind carrying little ones!), as the trail becomes quite steep toward the end and is fairly long overall. But the effort is well worth it: at the top, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views, plenty of play opportunities for children — including a zip line, mud kitchen, wooden playhouse, and slide — as well as a variety of animals. We were even allowed to help with the afternoon feeding!

Bernhard and Veronika run the hut together with their four young children, creating a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. With advance booking, it’s even possible to stay overnight — though space is very limited.

Starting point: St. Helena in the Ultental Valley (parking at St. Helena). From there, follow forest road no. 9A to the Mariolberg Alm, which you’ll reach in about 40 minutes on an easy, gently sloping path. After this point, the climb through the Falkomai Valley begins. Follow trail no. 9, then 3A, as it winds through the forest along the Kirchbach stream — an exciting section for children, with many chances to splash in the water and explore. Once you leave the forest, a wide alpine meadow opens up before you, and you’ll see the Inner Falkomai Hut ahead. The final stretch is quite steep, but manageable, and brings you to your well-earned destination.

The return follows the same route back down.
