Route Description

This easy hike on the Renon is perfect for families with children and offers breathtaking beauty in every season. The journey itself is already part of the adventure: from Bolzano, take the Renon Cable Car up to Soprabolzano. From there, a gentle and mostly level walking path leads to Collalbo. The entire route is suitable for strollers and offers continuous panoramic views of the Dolomites and the Sciliar (Schlern).

At the end of the trail in Collalbo, you can either take the bus back to Bolzano or hop on the historic Renon Railway for a short ride back to Soprabolzano, where you can reconnect with the cable car.

Getting to Soprabolzano

The Renon Cable Car departs from Bolzano every 4 minutes. During high season, queues may form despite the short intervals.

Once in Soprabolzano, follow Trail No. 35 towards Lichtenstern and Collalbo.

The Trail

The path is easy and stroller-friendly. Kids can also ride along with their bikes or balance bikes. Along the way, you’ll find several benches perfect for short breaks.
A highlight for little hikers: you’ll regularly come across alpacas grazing along the route. The sweeping views of the Dolomites and the Sciliar accompany you almost the entire way.

Food & Drink along the Way

Around the halfway point you’ll reach Lichtenstern, where the Südtiroler Hof is a pleasant spot for a break with coffee, ice cream, or a light lunch.

Arrival and Return

After roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes of walking, you’ll reach Collalbo. For your return, you have two convenient options:
Bus No. 165 to Bolzano

  • Hourly service on weekends
  • Every 30 minutes on weekdays

Or Renon Railway back to Soprabolzano, then cable car to Bolzano

The bus station and railway station in Collalbo are just a short walk apart.
In Bolzano, the bus station is only a few steps from the cable-car valley station, making public transport exceptionally easy to use.
(Tip: the bus is usually less crowded than the train.)

You can find up-to-date schedules in the Südtirol Mobil App.
