Route description
Schwarzbachalm is one of our favorite spots in the Ahrntal Valley – simply because it offers so much for so many. You can reach it via several different hiking routes, ranging from easy to more challenging. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the surrounding peaks, along with a small petting zoo (feeding allowed), a playground, a bouncy castle, and a peaceful pond. Honestly, we doubt there are ducks anywhere else with such a spectacular view.
What stands out most is the thoughtful, nature-inspired design by host Daniel. The slide, for example, runs down a large rock and is accessed via steps carved directly into the stone. Even the goats have their own climbing platform, built right on a rocky ledge with panoramic views.
And if you’re into brunch – you’re in luck. Schwarzbachalm serves a delicious regional brunch in a truly beautiful setting.
Trail Options
Short, stroller-friendly route:
Park at the designated area just below the Schwarzbachalm and follow the forest road along the Schwarenbach River. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the top.
Longer route (not stroller-friendly):
Start directly from the village of Luttach. Park near the Sculpture Park – signs for Schwarzbachalm start from there. Follow the marked trail; after around 20 minutes, you can take a worthwhile detour to the Schwarzbach Waterfall (about 15 minutes each way). Once back on the main path, keep following the well-marked signs up to the Alm. This route is ideal for families with older kids or little ones in a carrier.

- Duration: approx. 1 hour 20 minutes one way (+ optional 30 minutes for waterfall), 1 hour 20 minutes return
