Description

The Mineral Museum in Tiso (Val di Funes, Isarco Valley) is a fascinating destination for families, offering both children and adults a closer look at the mysterious world of the Tiso Geodes. Geodes are rounded stones made of quartz porphyry, hollow inside and often lined with sparkling crystals – small natural wonders formed over millions of years deep within the rock.

The museum displays the most beautiful discoveries, collected and prepared by local mineral collector Paul Fischnaller. Interactive exhibits, models, and short films make the visit educational and exciting. In the entrance area, kids can crack open their own geodes (with a little help and for a fee) and experience the thrill of treasure hunting.

Our eldest was especially amazed by the museum shop – “This looks like a real pirate’s treasure!” Plan about an hour for your visit. It’s a perfect combination of learning and fun for families visiting the Isarco Valley – and a great indoor activity for rainy weather!

Family Adventure Tour

A real highlight for children: upon prior booking, families can join a guided excursion to the original geode discovery site, where little explorers can search for treasures themselves – equipped with tools, helmets, and safety goggles. The guided hike only takes place in good weather; available dates can be found on the museum’s website.

Family-Friendly Hikes in Tiso

Several easy and child-friendly hiking trails and geo-paths start directly at the museum:

  • Geotrail “Mineral Adventure Path” with sounding stones
  • Scenic walk around the Mesner Lacke in Tiso – featuring a fun climbing playground
