Please note that in South Tyrol there is no official authority that declares frozen lakes safe for ice skating. Entering any frozen water surface is always at your own risk. For this reason, I strongly recommend checking local conditions and safety advice before heading out onto the ice.
How to Reach Völser Weiher
From the parking area, follow the signs marked “Völser Weiher” and you will reach the lake in about five minutes via a stroller-friendly forest path. At the wooden pier you will find benches where you can change into your skates. Access to the ice is via steps or a ramp, making it convenient for families with strollers.
Right next to the lake is the small restaurant Schwimmhütt, where you can rent ice skates for a small fee. It is also a great place to warm up with hot drinks or enjoy small dishes. Please check opening hours in advance.
Ice Skating with Kids & Strollers
One of the great advantages of skating on a natural frozen lake is that, unlike many artificial rinks, strollers are allowed on the ice. This means even very young children can be part of the winter fun. At Völser Weiher, free dolphin-shaped skating aids for children are often provided and are usually shared among visiting families, depending on availability.
