Route Description

This easy, family-friendly hike in the Sarntal Valley is ideal for those with strollers or young children looking for a relaxed outdoor experience. The wide, flat Talfer Promenade runs along the Talfer River, offering a beautiful setting for a leisurely stroll in South Tyrol.

Thanks to its smooth surface, the promenade is also perfect for kids on balance bikes or bicycles. The combination of fresh mountain air, scenic surroundings, and short walking times makes this hike an excellent choice for families.

Starting Point and Trail

The hike begins at the Labnes ice rink in Schörgau. From here, follow the wide promenade upstream, against the flow of the river, towards Sarentino.
The trail runs directly along the riverbank and offers pleasant shade. Along the way, small wooden benches invite you to take a break and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. In summer, you might even spot a fisherman trying his luck in the Talfer River.

Because the trail is flat and well-maintained, children can ride balance bikes comfortably. If using bicycles, please be considerate of pedestrians, as this is not an official bike path.

After about 25 minutes, you will reach Sarentino. Here, you can take a stroll through the charming village center or enjoy a short break. The return journey follows the same route. Alternatively, you can start in the village and walk downstream.

Refreshment Options

Along the route and nearby, there are several places to stop:

  • Sportbar at Labnes Ice Rink (starting point of the hike)
  • Bad Schörgau (fine-dining restaurant, stating point of the hike)
  • Bar near the football fields in Sarentino (end of the hike)
  • Various restaurants in the village center

Particularly family-friendly is the “Forellenzucht” (trout farm) on the opposite side of the river near the Labnes sports area. It features a playground and farm animals for children to explore. Please note, there is no bridge across the river, so access requires a short drive.

A Great Hike in Any Season

This Sarntal Valley walk is suitable all year round. In summer, the Talfer River keeps the area pleasantly cool, while in winter, the walk can be combined with a fun ice skating session at the nearby Labnes ice rink.
An easy, scenic hike in South Tyrol, perfect for families to enjoy nature, fresh air, and quality time together.
