Route Description
Favogna (Fennberg) is a popular destination in summer, when the idyllic Lake Favogna invites visitors for a swim. We visited in spring and combined our trip with a short family-friendly walk, including a small detour to the lake. While the kids raced ahead on their bikes, we followed at a more relaxed walking pace.
Easy route – perfect for families
This route is ideal if you’re out with children, whether with a stroller, balance bike, or bicycle. The walk starts at the parking area near Lake Favogna. From there, follow the paved road (trail 502) towards Eichholz (Roverè della Luna). Please note that local traffic is allowed on this road. However, outside the main season traffic is usually very light – during our visit we didn’t encounter a single car.
Walking between farms and meadows
After just a few minutes, you’ll notice the unique character of the Favogna plateau. On the left side of the road, you pass several old, traditional farms that give the area its authentic charm. On the right, wide open meadows stretch out with beautiful views across the landscape.
After about 20 minutes, you reach a small path leading down into the forest – this was our turning point. We followed the trail a little further down to discover a small waterfall, then headed back up and found a nice spot above the meadow for a relaxed spring picnic.
Detour to Lake Favogna
Back at the starting point, it’s definitely worth taking a short detour to Lake Favogna. From the parking area, it’s about 10 minutes to the small pier and swimming access. A full loop around the lake is unfortunately not possible.
Food stops and playground
There are several places to eat on Favogna. We stopped at Gasthaus Zur Kirche for coffee and cake. Right next to it you’ll find a large playground, including a water and mud play area in summer – perfect for ending the outing with kids.
If you’re visiting in summer, it’s a great idea to bring swimwear. A dip in the cool waters of Lake Favogna is the perfect way to finish the day.
