Walk Along the Isarco River from Bressanone to Neustift Monastery – With a Great Playground & Perfect for (Balance) Bikes

This outing is great for the whole family: while the path follows the riverbank at a relaxed pace, kids can zip ahead on their bikes, and adults can enjoy a pleasant riverside walk. At the end, a large adventure playground awaits — fun for the kids and a relaxing break for the parents.

Start at the Acquarena in Bressanone

Begin at the paid parking area next to Acquarena. From there, follow the riverside promenade towards Neustift Monastery (left way). After a few minutes, cross the bridge to reach the opposite bank.

• Left riverbank: ideal for cyclists
• Right riverbank: perfect for walkers and families with young children on balance bikes

Nature, Animals & Little Breaks Along the Way

There are benches along the route — perfect for small breaks. With a bit of luck you might spot ducks, or even a heron (which caused great excitement for our boys!).
About halfway, you’ll pass a small playground with swings and a wooden playhouse — but the big playground comes later.

Bistro Frischluft with Large Adventure Playground

Follow the path along the river for about 45 minutes until you reach Bistro Frischluft. Here you’ll find:

• A giant slide tower
• Swings
• Slackline
• Outdoor fitness area
• Sand play zone with shade

Perfect for running around, playing, and taking a break!
At the bistro, you can enjoy drinks, snacks, or ice cream. The playground itself is accessible at any time — but the owners appreciate a small purchase if you use it. Make sure to check the opening times of Bistro Frischluft in advance.

Extra Tip for the Motivated

If you still have energy, continue 10 minutes further to the Neustift Monastery – or simply return the same way back along the river.

The entire route is stroller-friendly. The gentle sound of the Isarco River makes this walk especially relaxing — our baby fell asleep almost instantly.
