Route Description
The trail to the Eishof follows a forest road through the idyllic Val di Fosse. Towering mountains line the valley, and at the beginning you’ll be accompanied by the rushing waters of the Fosse stream. With an all-terrain stroller the path is manageable, though for toddlers we recommend a carrier or sling, as pushing can get tiring after a while.
Parking is available at the paid lot by Jägerrast, from where you simply follow the sign “Eishof.” This hike is part of the famous Merano High Mountain Trail (Meraner Höhenweg). While there aren’t many signposts along the way, the trail itself is clear and easy to follow – there’s only one way forward 😉
The first stretch through the forest is the steepest. Afterwards, the path levels out and runs pleasantly through the valley. After just under an hour you’ll reach Mitterkaseralm, shortly followed by Rableid Alm. From there, the trail leads you through a magical old larch forest before the Eishof finally comes into view.
The Eishof in Val di Fosse
For us, the Eishof is a place of tranquility and real energy. Nestled in a breathtaking mountain setting, it’s the perfect spot to relax and let your soul unwind. Children can enjoy a playground and little pedal tractors, while parents settle back in deckchairs and take a well-deserved break.
Food at the Eishof
In our opinion, few alpine huts in South Tyrol cook with as much love and care as here. The Eishof focuses on regional products, whole-animal use, and seasonal variety – and you can taste that with every bite!
Overnight Stay at the Eishof
With a reservation, you can also spend the night at the Eishof. The rooms are decorated with great attention to detail – just like the entire hut.
Insider tip: Families with children are best off planning an overnight stay before the end of September. Starting in October, the traditional Törggelen season begins, and evenings at the hut can become lively and last a little longer.
