Route description

Start in Truden (Trodena)

The Cislon Alpine Hut in the Trudner Horn Nature Park is a popular excursion for families. Several hiking trails lead up; our route combines stunning viewpoints, a peaceful larch forest (perfect for a picnic), and a cozy stop at the hut.
From the village center of Truden, park at the main car park and walk a few steps past Hotel Schönwies. Follow the trail signs to the Cislon Alpine Hut along path no. 2 (hiking time to the hut: approx. 1 h 50 min).

The trail begins on an old stone-paved road, climbing steeply through the forest. The first 20–30 minutes are challenging, but afterwards the path becomes mostly level. Soon you’ll reach a panoramic viewpoint with a wonderful view of Weißhorn and Schwarzhorn.

From here, a detour via Hochwand is possible. However, this is not recommended for younger children, as the trail is narrower and slightly exposed.

Across the larch meadows to the Cislon Alpine Hut

Stay on the main trail to the hut, which soon opens onto a wide larch meadow. After passing a small wooden gate, the landscape opens up – an ideal spot for a rest or picnic under the shade of old trees.

The trail then leads back into the forest, merging with a forest road. After a total of about two hours you’ll arrive at the Cislon Alpine Hut. Here you can enjoy traditional South Tyrolean hut food, coffee and cake, or a refreshing drink. A small playground right next to the hut makes this hike especially fun for kids.

Return to Truden

For the return, follow the forest road downhill. Important: do not go all the way down into the village, otherwise you’ll have to walk uphill on asphalt to reach the car park – not ideal with tired kids!

Instead, after about 15 minutes before the end, turn left onto a small forest path which leads directly back to the starting point.

The Cislon Alpine Hut is also open in winter. Since trails can be icy and slippery, sturdy footwear is essential. During low season, call ahead to confirm opening times.

Tips for families

  • Bring snacks: The larch meadow is perfect for a picnic!
  • Playground motivation: The small playground at the hut is the perfect incentive for kids.
  • Spare clothes: Next to the playground is a small pond – and we all know how magically kids are drawn to water!
  • Not stroller-friendly: This route is not suitable for strollers.

Alternative stroller-friendly route

If you are hiking with a stroller, do not turn right onto the steep trail at the signposts at the beginning, but stay left on the road, which then turns into a forest road. This option is still steep and requires some effort, but is suitable for strollers all the way. The return follows the same route.

  • Duration: 1 h ascent, 1 h descent
  • Elevation gain: 160 m ascent/descent
  • Distance: 6.3 km
  • Difficulty: Easy
