Route description
A visit to the Bizat Hut has become a must for us (and especially for our children) whenever we go on holiday in the Ahrntal Valley. The playground is nestled in the forest and features many lovingly designed play equipment, all based around fairy-tale themes. Even we adults enjoy searching for the little dwarf houses in the rocks or visiting the tree witch in the magical forest. There’s also a pond with fish and ducks (please don’t feed them!) and a small rabbit hutch.
The hut can be reached via several routes.
Longer route, not suitable for strollers:
For those who want to hike a bit longer, you can park your car at the Berggasthof Platterhof above St. Johann. From there, simply follow the signs for “Hexensteig” and “Bizathütte.” After about 10 minutes, you have the option to take a short detour to the Frankbach Waterfall (plan for an additional 20 minutes), or you can continue along the Hexensteig trail.
This adventure trail first leads you past the large glockenspiel (a music installation), then on to the climbing wall, the Bear Cave (a fantastic underground tunnel system), the spinning Witch’s Chair, and finally to the giant stone cairn and the bear family. In total, the hike along this scenic adventure trail to the Bizat Hut takes about an hour.
Shorter route, stroller-friendly:
For a shorter route or if you want to bring a stroller, you can simply park at a parking lot above Mühlegg and walk for 20 minutes along a forest road, where you’ll also pass the Stone Man and Bear Family toward the end.
In the summer, the Sun Witch visits the Bizat Hut every Saturday and brings a small surprise for the children. I recommend getting there early, as the hut has become a popular destination and is quite busy during the summer, even on weekdays.
Here you’ll find more information, as well as the opening hours for the Bizat hut.
