Description

In South Tyrolean dialect, Baggalocke means “a puddle dug out by an excavator” – a fitting name for this small, man-made lake, created right in the heart of Gais. Originally carved out by machinery, it has since become a beloved place to cool off on hot days – and best of all, it’s completely free!

What to expect:

  • Scenic setting: A small, peaceful pond with shallow but refreshingly cool water
  • Family-friendly: Gentle entry – perfect for young children
  • Sun & shade: Spacious lawn with plenty of trees for natural shade
  • Island bar: Snacks, ice cream, and drinks on a small island, reached by a bridge
  • Sports bar Zemma: Just next door, with a wider selection of food and drinks
  • Play area: Small sandbox right by the water
  • Parking: Paid parking available right next to the pond
  • Facilities: Public restrooms on site
  • Playground: Gais village playground just a 1-minute walk away – swings, slides, climbing frames, sand and water play areas, all shaded by trees
  • Sports facilities: Beach volleyball court, tennis and football pitches, basketball court, table tennis tables
  • Easy access: Conveniently reachable by bike

The pond is located on the edge of an industrial area – unusual for some, but exciting for kids who can watch trucks go by while swimming.

In summer, the Baggalocke is open all day, though lifeguard supervision is only available at certain times. Swimming is at your own risk.

The Baggalocke is a relaxed and charming alternative to outdoor pools and lidos – perfect for a refreshing family day out in summer.
